Dense hard coral growing on a shallow reef in Flores waters

Conservation

A park that protects fishing grounds as well as reef.

183 coral species, 306 reef fish, dugong and turtles — under a zoning system that has to keep working for the people who fish it.

In short

The park protects 183 coral species and 306 reef fish species alongside dugong, dolphins, turtles and giant clams, managed by Balai Besar KSDA NTT under mixed zoning.

  • Mangrove and seagrass are protected, not only reef.
  • Local fishing continues inside the zoning.
  • It is a tourism park, not a national park.

What is protected

Three habitats, not one

Reef gets the attention. The other two do most of the work.

On the water

What your behaviour actually changes

Do not stand on coral, do not take anything, and ask the captain to use a mooring rather than drop anchor on the reef. Carry your rubbish back to the boat and off it.

A responsible operator will already do these things. Asking is how you find out whether yours is one.
