Access & logistics
The overview: every approach to Riung, what each costs, and the day it takes out of your trip.
Riung is reached overland only — Bajawa is the shortest at 70–75 km, Ende is 130 km via Mbay, and Labuan Bajo is 340 km that nobody should attempt in one day.
The options
Cost against comfort against control. There is no route that gives you all three.

The comfortable version. You set the departure and stop where you like; budget a day rate plus fuel.

Possible on the Bajawa route in dry weather. The climbs and the rain make it a poor first long ride.

Road status
The magnitude 7.7 earthquake of 15 August 2026 caused confirmed damage in Riung and landslides on the Ende–Bajawa stretch of the Trans-Flores highway.
The main asphalt from Bajawa and Ende is generally passable, but small rockfalls in heavy rain are routine. Ask at your guesthouse the day before rather than trusting a route planner.
Riung boats are arranged locally, at the pier. For the Komodo leg or a full Flores itinerary, the reservations desk answers on WhatsApp.
