The Kelimutu crater lakes at sunrise under a pink and blue sky

Three days

One travel day in, one on the water, one out toward Kelimutu.

The shape almost everyone ends up with, written out hour by hour — and why two days does not work.

In short

Day one you travel in from Bajawa and settle; day two is the full island-hopping boat day; day three you move on toward Ende and Kelimutu.

  • Two days means arriving and leaving with one boat day squeezed between.
  • The boat day cannot be moved — it runs 08.00 to 16.00.
  • Kelimutu at sunrise pairs naturally with day three.

The three days

What each day actually holds

Times are the ones the boats and buses actually keep.

Why not two

Two days is one bad day and two travel days

The boat leaves at 08.00 and returns at 16.00, and the road in takes most of a day. On a two-day plan you arrive tired, take the boat, and leave — with no margin if the weather turns.

The third day costs a room and buys the whole trip a fallback.
